Put an end to child marriage and empower females

Ethnic minorities still exist points that are no longer relevant today, some regulations on marriage and family, rereading, still realize the binding value. Specifically, it is the custom of getting married at a young age in ethnic areas.

Child marriage not only goes against the fine customs and traditions of Vietnam, violates the law, but also is one of the obstacles to socio-economic development, social progress and sustainable development of ethnic minority areas, which has a detrimental impact on the nation's progress. According to the survey results in 2019, the rate of child marriage among ethnic minorities was 21.9%. Child marriage occurs among all 53 ethnic minorities, with the largest rates occurring among the Mong (51.5%), Co Lao (47.8%), Mang (47.2%), Xinh Mun (44.8%), and Ma (39.2%) minority.

Several research indicate when girls get married early, their health will be weakened, especially they may experience many complications during pregnancy. Moreover, they will be shocked psychologically, may suffer from depression, mental disorders due to disagreement on life views, even lead to domestic violence. Furthermore, in general, child marriage is one of the causes of increasing poverty, inhibiting the development of women and society.

H'Hen Niê is a beauty queen and model from the Ede ethnic group. Especially, she was the first ethnic minority in Vietnam to win the crown of Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 and was the representative of Vietnam to participate in the Miss Universe 2018 contest, excelling in the Top 5 finalists. She once said that: "I'm an ethnic minority, i was supposed to get married at 14 but no, i chose education. Standing here, I want to say I can do it and you can too". Her saying was like a torch that strongly inspires the ethnic people, especially girls and women.
